EC/EG/ECE homologation
MILLER Exhaust exhaust systems® hold – where stated for the respective product – a valid EC, EG or ECE homologation or operating permit. Approval is always granted specifically for a vehicle and version and applies exclusively to the vehicle types and variants listed in it. Depending on the model and year of manufacture, we cover emission stages Euro 1 to Euro 5+. Testing is carried out within Europe by accredited technical services. The relevant reference is always the specific vehicle assignment stated in the respective product description.
Approval for use on public roads
A validly homologated exhaust system generally does not need to be entered in the vehicle documents – provided it is homologated for the vehicle in question and is operated unchanged and complete in the approved configuration. This includes all homologation-relevant components such as the dB absorber, catalytic converter and connecting pipes. The approval marking is located directly on the exhaust system or on the silencer.
Scope of validity and special note for Switzerland
Within the EU, with correct vehicle assignment and unchanged use, no additional individual technical inspection is usually required. Special conditions apply for Switzerland (see the section “Information for our Swiss customers”).
Important note
Homologation applies exclusively to the tested and approved condition. Technical modifications may lead to loss of admissibility – in particular removing or altering the legal dB absorber, using a racing dB absorber, removing a prescribed catalytic converter, interventions on the silencer or connecting pipe, and use on a vehicle type that has not been released.
dB absorber / dB killer
The dB absorber (often also called a dB killer) is a technically matched component of the silencer and part of the approved exhaust system. It reduces noise emissions to the level defined within the respective homologation. Noise testing is always performed in the configuration with the intended dB absorber – the EC, EG or ECE approval granted refers exclusively to this version.
Factory-fitted as standard
On all exhaust systems we supply as road-legal, the legal dB absorber is already fitted at the factory. Delivery without a dB absorber or with a racing dB absorber is excluded.
Tamper protection since Euro 4
Since the introduction of the Euro 4 standard, removable noise-reducing components must be secured such that removal is not possible without a visible or destructive change to the fixing – the dB absorber is therefore secured in place or welded.
Use on public roads
If the dB absorber is part of the approval, operation without it is not permitted on public roads. Racing dB absorbers – where offered by us – are intended exclusively for use outside public road traffic (motorsport, race track, show purposes) and have no road approval.
Removal or modification
Any unauthorised intervention – removing, shortening, drilling out, enlarging openings or altering the fixing – takes place outside the homologated version and may void the operating permit. The vehicle owner or rider is responsible for ensuring that vehicle and exhaust system remain in a legally compliant condition.
Catalytic converters – for the sake of the environment
Catalytic converters reduce the pollutants contained in the exhaust gas, in particular carbon monoxide (CO), unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), and thus help to comply with the statutory emission limits.
Matched to the respective emission class
In our exhaust systems, catalytic converters are used whenever they are required for the respective vehicle and the corresponding homologation – matched to the vehicle version, the emission standard (Euro 1 to Euro 5+) and the approved configuration.
Part of the approved version
If a catalytic converter is part of the homologated exhaust system, it must also be used on public roads. If it is removed, bypassed or replaced by a non-approved component, the exhaust system no longer corresponds to the homologated version and the vehicle's admissibility may lapse.
Check before ordering
Not every exhaust system is suitable for every vehicle and every emission class. Before ordering, please check against the product description:
- vehicle model and type approval,
- year of manufacture or first registration,
- applicable emission class,
- whether a catalytic converter is required and whether it is already part of the exhaust system or needed separately,
- whether an additional document is required for Switzerland.

Manufacturing and materials
From machining and bending the tubes through welding, bracket and silencer production to polishing, end-cap assembly and marking, we combine craftsmanship with modern manufacturing processes. We use high-quality stainless steel – heat- and corrosion-resistant, mechanically robust and durable – as well as aluminium for selected end caps and components.
Developed directly on the motorcycle
Every exhaust system is developed on the actual motorcycle – taking into account installation space and vehicle geometry, pipe routing and clearances to the swingarm, frame and bodywork, thermal loads, mounting points, ground and lean-angle clearance, exhaust routing, noise development and visual integration. Only once the technical implementation meets our requirements does a product go into testing and series production.
Quality control
Before delivery, we inspect every exhaust system according to internal quality specifications – including workmanship, welds, surface finish, correct components, mounting points, connection dimensions, type marking and completeness of the scope of delivery. The aim is consistent quality across the entire series.

Information for our Swiss customers
Our EG/ECE operating permit or European homologation does not automatically replace all required documents in Switzerland: due to additional national requirements, an additional Swiss document may be necessary for registration or presentation at the MFK (vehicle inspection authority), depending on the vehicle and exhaust system – referred to, depending on the case, as a CH expert report (CH-Gutachten), MFK certificate, Swiss type approval, declaration of conformity or ASA Certificate of Conformity.
CH expert report available directly from MILLER Exhaust
For many of our homologated exhaust systems, Swiss customers can order the required CH expert report or MFK certificate – where available for the vehicle – directly via our web shop, receiving the exhaust system and the Swiss documentation from a single source. The certificate is vehicle- and product-specific and applies exclusively to the combination listed in it. Please therefore ensure complete vehicle details: manufacturer and model, vehicle type or type code, year of manufacture or first registration, vehicle identification number (VIN), type approval number and the exact version of the MILLER Exhaust exhaust system.
MFK and registration in Switzerland
Whether and to what extent an entry, inspection or presentation at the responsible MFK is required depends on the applicable Swiss regulations. The CH expert report serves as proof of the approved vehicle/exhaust combination vis-à-vis the authorities and inspection bodies; we recommend carrying it together with the vehicle documents.

Please note that additional costs may arise for deliveries to Switzerland – in particular shipping costs, import duties, any Swiss VAT, customs or clearance fees, and the cost of the respective CH expert report. If a Swiss document is required separately, the price is shown in the web shop. Before ordering, please check whether an additional document is required for your vehicle. If in doubt, feel free to send us your vehicle details in advance – we will check which CH expert report is intended for your motorcycle and the desired exhaust system.
Certification
Miller Exhaust – Custombike GmbH is certified by TÜV International Certification (TIC) (TÜV-CERT / KBA number / TIC ID 15 102 15050; certification body: TÜV Thüringen – International Certification). Our operational procedures, quality processes and organisational requirements are regularly checked and monitored through recurring audits. For customers and dealers, this means an independently documented confirmation that the relevant requirements and processes are met.
Installation
Installing an exhaust system requires technical knowledge and experience. We therefore expressly recommend having it carried out by a specialist workshop or qualified personnel. Follow the supplied installation instructions and use gaskets, clamps, brackets and other fixing parts in accordance with the specifications. Improper installation can lead to leaks, stresses, damage or an impairment of operational safety. After the first rides, check all bolted connections, brackets and clamps for a secure fit and retighten them if necessary.
Heat-induced discolouration
Exhaust systems made of stainless steel are exposed to high temperatures and strong temperature fluctuations during operation. Depending on the vehicle, engine tuning and riding style, yellowish, golden, brownish, bluish or darker discolouration may therefore occur – even on high-gloss polished surfaces. This is a material- and temperature-related property of stainless steel, not a defect or fault; the function, durability and operational safety of the exhaust system are not impaired by it.
Care and cleaning
Completely remove dirt, fingerprints and oil, grease or cleaning-agent residues before first use – such residues can burn in due to the heat and cause visible stains. Only treat the exhaust system when it has fully cooled down and with suitable care products. Aggressive, abrasive or acidic cleaning agents can damage the surface.
Changes and deviations
Errors, technical changes and further developments reserved. Product images are for illustration; depending on the model, production status or technical development, minor deviations in shape, surface, colour, welds, brackets, markings, mounting points, dimensions or scope of delivery are possible. The same applies to minor deviations from stated dimensions, weights and product descriptions, provided the intended use and function of the product are not impaired by them.
